Midstream and downstream analysis solutions for the oil industry

Compliancy you can trust

When it comes to analysis of oils and oil products, results you can trust are important during both midstream and downstream processes.

With Malvern Panalytical’s industry-leading elemental analysis solutions, producers can analyze the levels of sulfur, nickel, vanadium, catalyst residue, and other contaminants in their oil products. This helps ensure that you can be confident of your products’ properties and achieve optimal blending sharpness. And, with our compliance standards, quality control, and training and consultancy, you can also be extra sure that your solutions meet the latest regulations on additives, impurities and restricted substances.

Midstream processes

During transportation, storage, and wholesale of oil or refined petroleum products, it’s essential to determine the properties of products before ownership is transferred.

This process includes analyzing for sulfur, but also for detrimental elements such as nickel and vanadium that can cause problems later in the refining process. Our elemental analysis solutions can measure all these parameters, enabling a smooth transportation process.

Downstream processes

Whether it’s refining fuel, blending crude oil products, or producing petrochemicals, materials analysis can play a key role in the success of downstream oil processes.

In refining, for instance, elemental analysis can help producers ensure that their fuel complies with sulfur regulations and doesn’t contain excess nickel, iron, vanadium, or manganese, which can inactivate the Fluid Cracking Catalyst (FCC).

Next to that, when blending fuel products, sulfur analysis using our on-line Epsilon Xflow or smaller at-line solutions enables producers to optimize the blending sharpness.

In this way, they can minimize costs while still falling within the regulatory limits for high-sulfur content. And, in petrochemical production, X-ray fluorescence spectrometers such as Zetium enable producers to detect and analyze impurities and catalyst residues.
