Purchasing cheaper opportunity crude oils can increase your refining margin significantly. However, most opportunity crudes contain higher levels of compounds that are detrimental to the refining installation. Refineries who can best manage the balance between the lower feed costs and the higher maintenance costs will therefore be the most profitable. As much as 36% of maintenance costs of refineries can be linked to corrosion. Organic chlorines, and many sulfur compounds can cause severe corrosion. Therefore control of chlorine and sulfur levels is essential for keeping maintenance costs low.

Primarily on how you can increase your margins while reducing your maintenance costs. He will share about the updates to this testing method which looks towards the energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique as an alternative to titration analysis. Titration as you might know, requires skilled operators, is time and chemicals-consuming and yields less repeatable results.
