The aim of ceramic processing is to maximize the strength and reliability of the end ceramic product. Ceramic processing involves a number of stages (e.g. powder manufacture, milling, blending, granulation, compaction, sintering, grinding, incorporation of additives); each stage must be understood as it can affect final ceramic properties.
The control of the stability of a ceramic dispersion can prevent particle aggregation from occurring. The measurement of zeta potential and rheological properties can be used to optimize dispersion conditions to produce a defect free product. Data include titania, alumina slurries with additives (plastisizer, binder, dispersant), of relevance for the optimization of aggregation-free suspensions.
