Dry dispersions are increasingly being used as an alternative to wet dispersions as they offer the advantage of measuring larger sample masses much more quickly. Being able to achieve reproducible results from dry laser diffraction measurements is really important, and that greatly depends on factors like representative sampling and appropriate measurement conditions.

Sampling, the first step in any analysis, should not be overlooked as it is the greatest potential source of error for a laser diffraction measurement. This is because the technique is volume-based and consequently extremely sensitive to small changes in amount of coarse particles within a sample. At the same time, ensuring the right measurement conditions such as measurement duration is also important to produce representative data.

In this session, Application Specialist for Malvern Panalytical, Chanwook Park, will focus on the process of setting up a method for dry laser diffraction measurements. He will also provide practical tips on sampling and maintenance to ensure reliable and reproducible data every time you conduct a measurement.

Dr Chanwook Park, Applications +amp;amp; Product Manager at Malvern Panalytical, based in South Korea

Dr Park joined Malvern Panalytical in 2007 as a Application Specialist. At present, he is the Application and Product Manager in Korea. Dr Park completed his PhD in Polymer Engineering at Dankook University in Yongin, South Korea. He specialises in particle size (laser diffraction, DLS), particle shape and concentration analysis. In his work, he actively supports various industries from pharmaceuticals, cement, steel, academia and more. He is instrumental in helping customers to choose the relevant instrumentation for their R and D as well as QC process, training them on how to optimise their solutions through expanding their applications.
