There is a strong global trend in automotive design that features a continuous increase in the use of conventional, performance, and novel polymeric materials. This is a result of weight savings, design flexibility, and ease of fabrication offered by polymers when compared to metals. Complicated automotive components like instrument panels can now be readily made to exact specifications in terms of shapes, colors, and feel. Bumpers can be formed and painted to complement other body panels of the vehicle.

This webinar will review polymer characterization technology for Polyolefins, Nylon, Polycarbonate, and Polyacrylonitrile. Examples of how these analytical technologies can help drive the development and application of various polymer systems will be covered. Examples include the use of FIPA for aging study of Polypropylene bumpers, crystallinity measurement of EPR tire rubbers, and PPM level quantitation of PIB in gasoline.
