Over the last twenty years or so, laser diffraction has emerged as a widely accepted technique for particle size analysis across different segments. The various advantages of the technique like wide dynamic range, high sample throughput, the robustness of results and regulatory acceptancy make it popular in both the R+D environment and QC departments. The webinar series will discuss various aspects of the technique, with examples of how it is applied in pharmaceuticals among other industries including specialty chemicals, catalysts, cement, mining, food and more. In the example of pharmaceuticals, monitoring the particle size distribution of oral solid dose drugs - whether the API or excipient – is critical towards ensuring the drug release, stability and hence understanding the drug’s efficacy and performance.
In this part of the webinar, Tamal Mukherjee, Application Specialist will summarize how a laser diffraction system works, how it’s different from other techniques that measure particle size, how a measurement is carried out and how particle size distributions are calculated.

Tamal specializes in the Micrometrics product ranges. He is associated with Malven Panalytical for more than 10 years and has closely worked with many of the prominent generic pharmaceuticals in India and south Asia region especially supporting and collaborating in characterizing issues related to API’s and formulation types like OINDPs, OSDs, opthalmics etc.
