Présentateur

Prof Ashish Garg, Sustainable Energy Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK)

Prior to Prof Garg's appointment, he was with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of IITK from 2003 until 2020. He is also the coordinator of ‘Rice-IITK Collaborative Center’ at IITK, joint center of Rice University and IITK. Ashish Garg obtained his PhD degree in Materials Science and Metallurgy from University of Cambridge in 2002, followed by an independent Research Fellowship at Downing College, Cambridge before joining IIT Kanpur in 2003. He has also had brief stints at Tata Special Steels limited (Mumbai) in 1995-1996, Infineon Technologies (Germany) in May-July 2005, and at RMIT University, Melbourne and CSIRO (Clayton) during 2008-2012. He has also served as the Head of the Department of Materials Engineering and Professor-in-Charge of faculty affairs at IIT Jodhpur in 2016-17.

His group’s current research interests are in materials and devices related to energy conversion from solar energy, batteries, energy harvesting using piezoelectrics, triboelectrics and magnetoelectrics and data storage. He has been associated with several national and international collaborations, is co-author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, co-invented 10 patents and has guided over 10 PhD and over 30 masters students. He is recipient of MRSI Medal lecture, Ramanna fellowship, Australia India science and technology awards, Endeavour Fellowship and INSA and UP government’s Young Scientist awards. He is a passionate teacher and has taught a variety of courses. Some of his courses are also online, prepared under National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) of Government of India.

Dr Umesh Tiwari, Global Manager for Advanced Materials, Malvern Panalytical

Dr Tiwari takes care of Malvern Panalytical's analytical solutions and imparting knowledge within the advanced materials industries. These include research and manufacturing of batteries, thin films, specialty chemicals, powder metallurgy, as well as environmental monitoring.
