Determination of low sulfur content in petroleum products and automotive fuels according to ASTM D4294-10, ISO 20847-04 and IP 496/05

This application note describes the analysis of low sulfur content with the Epsilon 3X EDXRF spectrometer, in petroleum products and automotive fuels, according to international standards ASTM D4294-10, ISO 20847 and IP 496/05.

Sulfur analysis of automotive fuels is a crucial requirement, not only as a quality control procedure to conform to standards or to monitor detrimental effects on engine performance, but also to comply with the large number of environmental regulations. One of the more stringent EU directives requires a reduction of sulfur in fuel to a maximum of 10 mg/kg.
