Malvern Panalytical has become a service member of the British Metals Recycling Association

British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA) is a trade association representing the £7 billion UK metal recycling sector. The industry processes over 10 million tonnes of ferrous and non-ferrous metals every year, including steel, aluminum, and copper, and is vital for saving CO2 emissions from being released. The BMRA’s main objective is to safeguard the interests of its member companies by being an influential voice, helping members understand and respond to changing conditions, legislations and regulations and providing additional services to benefit its members.

Where do we come in?

When a car reaches the end of its life, its catalytic converter is scrapped and the precious metals are recovered, extracted, and refined. Several stakeholders are involved in this recycling chain, from scrap merchants to toll refineries, therefore it’s essential to grade the converter’s high-value precious metal content accurately.

At Malvern Panalytical, we have created a fast, easy, transparent way to do this – all while meeting the highest safety standards. Our Epsilon spectrometers use the latest energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF) technology.

Combined with our advanced data models, this ensures precise measurement – every time. Every participant in the automotive catalyst recycling chain can use these world-class benchtop solutions.

As well as determining the precious metal content in used automotive catalysts, XRF also provides the total elemental composition of the material so that you can address other operational challenges at the same time.

We have already helped FJ Church & Sons, a BMRA member, gain accurate and precise measurements of Platinum, Palladium & Rhodium in the recycling of catalytic converters. This allowed them to offer their clients both a spot purchasing can price or toll refining terms for customers who wish to gain and manage the most accurate value of platinum group metals.
