It has been previously shown that borate fusion using a M4 gas instrument and Wavelength Dispersive XRF (WDXRF) can comply with the analytical targets described in ASTM C 114 and ISO/DIS 29581-2 for cement analysis. As the demand for electric fusion devices increases in the cement industry, it is of interest to evaluate the performance of LeNeo and TheOx Advanced electric fusion instrument to access its capacity to comply with these analytical standard test methods using the same calibration strategy. This webinar presents the results of a calibration strategy that allows the analysis of chlorine (Cl) in cement materials using a borate fusion and WD-XRF method.

Louis Lefrancois Perreault: Louis obtained his bachelor’s degree (2014) and master’s degree (2016) in chemistry from Université Laval. His master’s thesis was about the use of mesoporous carbons for a selective separation of rare earth elements. He was hired at Claisse in 2016 as an application scientist. Before that, Louis has done an internship at AirBoss Defence for a year and a half. His fields of interest are analytical chemistry, sample preparation and material science.

LeNeo or TheOx Advanced fusion instrument has the same fusion capabilities and analytical performance as the M4 instrument when it comes to the preparation of cement samples. It also allows to quality for the ASTM C 114 and complies with ISO/DIS 29581-2 standard tests methods for all elements of interest in the cement industry. However, Cl analysis in cement remain difficult because of the lack of CRMs with high content of Cl. The webinar demonstrates the result of an alternative method to analyse high content of Cl in cement.
