Empowering scientists with the new Zetasizer Academia
The old saying, ‘the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence’, applies to many things in life – but the scientific community is a great example! Academia has been the home of scientific research for many centuries and carries the prestige of all that history. Universities often offer scientists the chance to focus on their research without competing priorities of profit or commercial interests. But on the other side of the ‘fence’, scientists working in the private sector often enjoy more secure funding, access to the latest technology, and more agile research cycles.
Understanding unique challenges
At Malvern Panalytical, we’re passionate about supporting all our partners on both sides of the ‘fence’ – and when our colleagues in academia have told us about their specific challenges, we heard them!
These challenges range from the obvious – like unstable funding – to the less obvious to those on the outside, such as knowledge transfer. Researchers don’t always stay at one institution, and Ph.D. students often leave once their studies are complete, taking their expertise in getting the best out of an instrument, like the Zetasizer, with them!
Even funding is not always a simple topic. Acquiring an instrument might be relatively straightforward, but maintenance and repairs may not be accounted for in the budget – potentially leaving a fixable instrument unusable for long periods.
Announcing the Zetasizer Academia!
In 2022, we selected the first winner of the Malvern Panalytical Scientific Award as part of our commitment to supporting scientists at every stage of their career. In that spirit, we’ve also created our first instrument package configured especially for academic researchers – the Zetasizer Academia!
The successor to the famous Zetasizer Nano, the Zetasizer Advance collection of dynamic light scattering (DLS) instruments are a true lab workhorse. They’re used for the rapid, accurate measurement of key nanoparticle characteristics such as size, molecular weight, and (of course!) zeta potential in a wide range of applications and specializations. Our Academia package includes a fully capable Zetasizer Advance family, which is a popular choice for researchers worldwide – on both sides of the fence!
To help address the challenge of knowledge transfer, there’s a package of e-learning and training materials included, along with detailed instructions for self-installation to flatten the learning curve. This way, no-one needs to start from scratch! There’s a starter kit with accessories and consumables included too, so you’re up and running as quickly and smoothly as possible.
The package also includes triple the standard warranty period – three years in total – to give you peace of mind for longer during your research, and avoid unexpected maintenance or repair costs within this time. And of course, the entire package is available within the affordable budget you’re used to.
Supporting the science of the future
One reason we created the Zetasizer Academia is that nanoscience research is more critical than ever in our world. With applications from pharmaceuticals and bioscience to the formulation of smart coatings, nanoparticle researchers are having a huge impact across society – and they’re only just getting started. We’re proud to support this important research, inside or outside universities – so, get in touch today and find out how we can help with your project!
