What’s new in ITC: Additions to your (virtual) bookshelf
Use of Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) continues to grow, and many books and scientific articles cite the use of Malvern Panalytical’s MicroCal ITC systems. This blog highlights recent publications. You can easily use Google Scholar or Scopus to find other articles relevant to your research interests.
Every user of ITC needs to get “Microcalorimetry of Biological Materials.” Eric Ennifar (University of Strasbourg, France) edited this new protocol book, and each chapter is written by experts in the ITC and/or DSC characterization of proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids. The book also includes information on advanced data analysis software. You can buy the entire eBook or individual chapters.
Another new book is “Biomolecular and Bioanalytical Techniques: Theory, Methodology and Applications.” Each chapter introduces and discusses biophysical techniques, such as light scattering, analytical ultracentrifugation, spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. Graeme Conn (Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, USA) wrote the chapter on ITC. This is an excellent introduction to the technology and includes tips on experimental design and trouble shooting.
Following are review articles on specific applications including use of a MicroCal ITC:
- Overview of the detection methods for equilibrium dissociation constant KD of drug-receptor interaction (J. Pharm. Analysis, 2018)
- Isothermal titration calorimetry as a complementary method for investigating nanoparticle-protein interactions (Nanoscale, 2019)
- Isothermal titration calorimetry: feeling the heat (The Biochemist, 2019)
- Isothermal titration calorimetry for characterization of recombinant proteins (Curr. Opin. Biotechnol. 2019)
- Applications of ITC-Based Characterization of Thermodynamic and Kinetic Association of Ligands With Proteins in Drug Design (Frontiers in Pharmacology, 2018)
- Isothermal titration calorimetry for chiral chemistry (Chirality, 2018)
- Enthalpy- versus Entropy-Driven Molecular Recognition in the Era of Biologics (ChemBioChem, 2019)
In 2019, there have already been hundreds of research articles utilizing a MicroCal ITC system, such as PEAQ-ITC, to help characterize biological reactions.
