Measuring the particle size distribution of powder coatings using laser diffraction

Powder coatings are used to provide a corrosion resistant surface finish on metal surfaces. They are more environmentally friendly than paint, and can be applied to surfaces without the risk of drips. The coatings are applied using a powder spray gun and it is important for the final surface finish of the coating that the particle size is controlled. In this application note we demonstrate the use of the Mastersizer 3000 and Aero S dry dispersion accessory to measure the particle size distribution of powder coating materials.
