Malvern France organizes the first seminar on Raman spectroscopy coupled with image analysis
Tuesday, October 1, 2013, Malvern France introduced its clients to image analysis associated with Raman spectroscopy.
25 people from various backgrounds (Rouen, Montluçon, Lyon, Dijon, Nancy, …) came to participate in this day. More than thirty samples were processed in the afternoon. Even though Myrrh confirmed not having a Raman spectrum, all other samples proved to be rich in information.
Everyone was delighted with this day and some participants, eager to get their results, stayed late, braving traffic in the Paris suburbs.
Image analysis is a technique very complementary to laser granulometry as it allows measuring the shape of particles. To make this technique even more resolving, coupling with a Raman microprobe allows adding chemical characterization to morphological analysis. In this case, the x, y coordinates of each particle can be used to guide the microprobe and save considerable time in Raman spectrometry.
The program was:
- Theory of Raman spectroscopy and presentation of the coupling of image analysis and Raman spectroscopy
- Presentation of case studies of Raman spectroscopy on powder mixtures
- Technique demonstration
- Measurement of client samples
The presenters were:
- Deborah Huck-Jones – Product Technical Specialist – Morphological Imaging
- Michel Terray – Application Manager France
