Crystals are essential for the semiconductor industry, found in countless devices that form part of our daily lives. However, their material properties can vary depending on their crystal axis, making good control of their orientation crucial: the more complex the sample, the greater the analytical power needed.

Recent developments in X-ray scattering, including new instrumentation and analytical methods, have benefited the study of crystalline materials. For example, the Azimuthal scan uses smart geometrical measurement to orient the crystal in all directions in as little as 10 seconds. Malvern Panalytical’s Crystal Orientation range makes use of this technology to offer quick and easy measurements with the right properties for the next step in the process.

We will be showcasing the Crystal Orientation range at the German-French Crystal Growth Conference (DKT) from March 5 to 7 in Frankfurt. The event location, Goethe University, is one of the top research universities in Germany and specializes in chemical, biochemical, and physical basic research. The main focus of DKT 2025 will be the scientific foundations of experimental, theoretical, and applied crystallization. The production and characterization of semiconductors will form part of this program, making it ideal for industry stakeholders interested in the latest developments in this field.

At the event, our experts, Dirk Kok and Florian Dreher, will provide insights into optimizing crystal growth processes for both academic and industrial settings. They will also address key challenges in bulk semiconductor production and the precise crystallographic orientation needed for semiconductors, lasers, nonlinear optics, and solid-state research.

Dirk/Florian says: “By enhancing efficiency in crystal characterization and growth, our technologies help reduce time and costs while improving accuracy in semiconductor and materials research. We look forward to meeting attendees in Frankfurt to discuss the latest advancements in crystal growth technologies!”
