Overview

Recognized as the de facto technology for mineralogical analysis, the rugged portable ASD TerraSpec mineral spectrometers are trusted by top geologists for performing fast, precise pathfinder mineral identification for the identification of exploration targets.

The ASD TerraSpec 4 Hi-Res mineral analyzer brings new levels of efficacy to mineral exploration technology. This state-of-the-art mineral spectrometer offers enhanced performance in the SWIR 1 and 2 regions and a 6 nm resolution to help you determine the viability of mineral exploration targets faster and more precisely than ever before. These enhancements provide you with the ability to capture accurate spectral data more quickly, especially for samples with darker mineral features.

Features

  • Best for: users requiring maximum sensitivity, ideal for outdoor and remote sensing applications.

  • User-replaceable fiber optic cable: SMA 905connector allows quick cable replacement in the field, minimizing downtime.

  • Use with artificial light sources: can compensate for lower sensitivity with artificial light sources.

  • Bifurcated cable compatibility: ideal for precise spot measurements in mining applications.

  • Geology and mining applications: designed for enclosed formations, core logging, and reconnaissance sampling.

Key applications

The ASD TerraSpec 4 Hi-Res mineral spectrometer can be used in many industry applications, including:

  • Oil sands and oil shale analysis: ASD instruments are used for onsite monitoring of kerogen and bitumen quantities
  • Petroleum exploration: Petroleum geologists utilize ASD instruments for improved definition of deposit mineralogy, real-time strata correlation, hole stability monitoring and dolomite porosity determination
  • Mining production and mineral processing: Evaluate and monitor mineral and ore properties to maximize a variety of mining processes and operations
  • Mineral exploration
  • Deposit mapping
  • Mineral assemblage identification
  • Drill cutting analysis
  • Core logging
  • Determining geochemical gradients
  • Clay species delineation
  • Faster vectoring to ore body

Made for geologists

For mining exploration geologists, these improvements translate into faster data capture at exploration targets and drilling sites. The improved data quality provided by the TerraSpec 4 Hi-Res mineral spectrometer also allows for accurate assessment of low-concentration and low-reflectance minerals, like iron-containing minerals such as serpentines and chlorites, which were previously difficult to measure. Benefits include:

  • Enhanced optical configuration provides more precise spectral results for superior spectrum clarity and definition
  • Industry-leading performance in the SWIR 1/SWIR 2 regions for unparalleled alteration mineral identification
  • Standard ruggedized steel-covered fiber optic cable ensures consistent spectral quality
  • No need for sample prep, which means fast field scans

Pair the TerraSpec 4 with The Spectral Geologist (TSG) software from Spectral Geoscience to analyze the spectra and produce mineralogical output products.

Why post-dispersive technology matters

Pre-dispersive systems: Disperse light before reaching the sample, relying on an internal light source.

Post-dispersive systems: Disperse light after reflection, allowing external light sources like the sun to be used.

The post-dispersive system technology used in ASD instruments offers superior analysis capabilities:

  • Measures reflected energy from external light sources
  • Adapts to different lighting conditions without internal light dependence
  • Provides reliable calibration for spectral radiometry
