High concentration zeta potential cell kit

Save time and effort by measuring zeta potential with little or no dilution.

The high concentration cell enables the measurement of the zeta potential of samples with little or no dilution in any Zetasizer Advance system that measures zeta potential.

The cell has a flow configuration so can be used for stop-flow size and zeta potential measurements using an MPT-3 autotitrator as well as batch measurements.

Overview

The zeta potential of particles or molecules in a dispersion depends not only on the chemistry of the material surface, but also on the chemistry of the dispersant. This means that to dilute the sample without changing the zeta potential requires that either this dispersant is available, or that experiments are done to show that the dilution does not affect the result.

If the diluent is not available or dilution is inconvenient, an alternative is to measure the sample without dilution, or with little dilution.

The high concentration cell is designed to increase the concentration range for zeta potential of samples in aqueous dispersants in comparison with the dip cell or folded capillary cell so that many samples can be measured with minimal preparation.

The cell has a low volume, which is ideal where there is a limited volume of sample available such as a novel protein for example, and is designed for simplicity of use, with a single thumb screw for dismantling and cleaning, so no tools are required.

  • Measurement at higher concentrations up to 40w%
  • Only 150µL sample required
  • Flow configuration compatible with the MPT-3 autotitrator
  • Easy to clean with no tools required to dismantle

How it works

The cell works by reducing the path length the illuminating laser and scattered light have to pass through. This means that higher concentrations of sample can be used as less light is absorbed.

The short path length is enabled using a precision quartz cell which can be removed and cleaning using commonly available interdental brushes.

The smaller path length and lower cell volume is matched by smaller volume electrode chambers that mean that only 150µL of sample is required for measurement.
