Overview

Epsilon 1 Ultra Low Sulfur is the ideal analytical solution. Pre-calibrated in the factory, our instrument is an out-of-the-box solution for analyzing low sulfur content in fuels. 

Analyses performed are compliant with ISO 13032 and many other sulfur-related international test methods including ASTM D4294, ISO 20847, ISO 8754, IP496, IP336, and JIS K2541-4.

Epsilon 1 ULS gives you precise and accurate data starting at 5 ppm sulfur and chlorine with minimal sample preparation and no need for helium - keeping your total running costs to a minimum.

Robust and flexible quantification

Epsilon 1 is a superior-quality benchtop X-ray fluorescence instrument, pre-calibrated for the analysis of ultra-low sulfur in automotive fuels. 

It provides full compliance with the latest international test methods, including the most stringent: ISO 13032. The results of the repeatability test for sulfur are well within the limits set by this standard. 

Looking to carry out trace analysis of chlorine in crude oils? We provide this as another pre-calibration option for the Epsilon 1 ULS instrument.

Features

  • Maximum sensitivity for sulfur and chlorine: The new thin-window vanadium anode X-ray tube, specifically designed and manufactured by Malvern Panalytical, ensures high sensitivity and top-quality measurements. Using vanadium as the anode material is ideal for quantifying sulfur and chlorine without interference from possible line overlaps in the XRF spectrum, leading to more reliable and accurate results. Also, you’ll be happy to know that vanadium and nickel analysis is possible at levels you require to protect your catalysts.

  • No need for helium gas: Epsilon 1 gives you precise and accurate data with minimal sample preparation and running costs. With the high sensitivity of the excitation and detection components, you don’t need helium gas to achieve compliant ISO 13032 results. The air pressure and temperature sensors in the instrument, combined with advanced software algorithms, make sure every measurement result is stable and independent of the environmental conditions. These innovations keep the total running costs to a minimum.

  • Spillage protection: A spillage protection foil is in place to shield the delicate heart of the system. In case of spillage, the foil can be replaced easily by the operator.

  • Easy communication: USB and network connections for standard computer peripherals support extended use, application development, and seated operator.

  • Self-contained system: A built-in computer running Microsoft Windows 10 with a powerful CPU and 120 GB hard drive gives you the flexibility to store and handle thousands of results. The high-resolution, 10.4” LCD touch screen is ideal for easy walk-up operation.

Epsilon software is the XRF analysis software platform that is used with PANalytical’s range of Epsilon 1 and Epsilon 4 benchtop EDXRF systems. The software offers all the functions required to set up and operate an Epsilon benchtop system. The analytical program assembly is greatly facilitated by the high degree of intelligence built into the software, allowing users to benefit from half a century of applications expertise. Daily XRF analysis is a routine task that can be readily carried out by inexperienced personnel after a minimum of instruction. Many features are present to enhance the usability of the software.

Stratos

Determination of composition and thickness of coatings and multi-layers

The Stratos software module features an algorithm which enables simultaneous determination of chemical composition and thickness of layered materials from measurements taken. The software provides a rapid, simple and non-destructive means of analyzing coatings, surface layers and multi-layered structures. The Virtual Analyst provides intelligence during the setup of measurement programs for complicated stacks.

FingerPrint

Instant material identification

A FingerPrint software module combined with an Epsilon 4 EDXRF system is ideal for material testing when analysis speed is important but the actual composition is not of interest. FingerPrinting generally involves little to no sample preparation and is non-destructive.

The Enhanced Data Security (EDS) module is a software option that provides enhanced trust in results for users of the Zetium XRF spectrometer (through the SuperQ software) and the Epsilon XRF spectrometer.
