Real-time feedback of unwanted mineral concentration levels helps to improve processes, ore recovery and mine safety by minimizing the use of hazardous reagents.

Malvern Panalytical’s solutions for exploration and remote sensing of new (greenfield) and existing (brownfield) ore deposits:

  • Provide real-time results for real-time decision making
  • Operate with no safety concerns
  • Can be flexible used in the field, at the core shack, adjacent to drill rig, in a field camp, laboratory or office
  • Handle a variety of sample types with little or no sample preparation

Remote sensing

Remote sensing technology is an effective and widely established analytical method for geology and mineral exploration, and has proven extremely beneficial by providing access to dangerous or previously inaccessible sites.  Aerial imagery acquired from hyperspectral and multispectral imaging sensors is applied to geological surveys, alteration zones mapping, and geomorphology applications. Important aspects of these studies are supported by ground truth data collected with field portable spectrometers. Data from highly portable field instruments is compatible with popular image analysis software packages, allowing to build spectral libraries tailored to a specific application.

Exploration

It is crucial to have an in-depth and well-defined understanding of a geological region when targeting and developing prospective sites. Traditional exploration includes material sampling and laboratory analysis which is costly and time consuming. In field analysis of outcrops, hand specimens, core and drill chips gives the ability to immediately determine the geometallurgical properties of the ore.  This gives direct feedback and allows decision making prior to chemical treatment in the processing plant.
